Policing and Violence Against Women and Girls

Operational VAWG Experience

With a deep understanding of effective and high-quality VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls) investigations, I bring operational credibility to challenge and influence practices. Over twelve years, I have served in various capacities, including: Detective Constable (specialising in sexual violence investigations), Detective Sergeant, Detective Inspector (achieving Lambeth's highest-ever police performance on VAWG). Additionally, I have chaired MARAC (Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference) in Westminster and Lambeth and am formerly a fully qualified Family Liaison Officer (FLO). I also received a judicial commendation for the quality of my investigation of an attempted murder case.

Policy, Strategy, and Academia

I have authored dissertations that challenge traditional metrics of police performance in domestic abuse investigations, advocating for qualitative and preventative approaches. My work includes analysing the use of language in PCC (Police and Crime Commissioner) accountability sessions on VAWG performance. I co-authored "Confidence in Policing: A Hackney Case Study," published in Policing: A Journal of Policy and Practice. My network spans universities and the College of Policing, focusing on VAWG. I have a first degree from Cambridge University (MML Trinity Hall, 2003) and an MSc from Warwick Business School in Police Leadership and Management (distinction).

Training, Learning, and Development

My portfolio includes co-ownership of Enlighten Training and Consultancy - a long-standing training, learning and skills business with clients in the health, government, policing and charity sectors. As part of the Enlighten team, I've worked hands on to designed and quality-assured VAWG content for a major force’s neighbourhood policing training. For two years, I was a key training partner in control room digital transformation for a major metropolitan force. I am keenly interested in how AI and ML technologies can enhance, scale, and personalise training and quality in policing.

Campaigns and Writing

I have played a crucial role in investigations and subsequent policy changes at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, regarding sexual misconduct. This work was featured in a Tortoise Media investigation. Back in 2014, I ran 1,000 miles to raise funds for Refuge and authored a LinkedIn article on the Clapham Common vigil and the state of VAWG investigations within policing.

Refugee Resettlement and Sanctuary Group Work

Since 2020 I've been involved with Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees, as Treasurer and as Chair of Trustees. In a paid capacity, I have also been Head of Outreach and Operations at Sponsor Refugees, a programme by Citizens UK. In a consultancy capacity, I have also recently worked to resettle families as part of a pioneering community sponsorship programme in partnership with Citizens UK and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.I am passionate about effective programme management, compassion and delivery of purpose in this space.

Labour Political Involvement, Activism & Leadership

I've been a Labour Party member since 2020 whilst also having supported our local MP, Dr Rosena Allin-Khan in her campaigns before 2020. Since early 2024, I've been co-chair of Furzedown Labour, and am on the approved list for future candidate nominations for Tooting CLP.I am deeply committed to Labour's mission to halve VAWG in ten years and to rebuild Britain.

Swimming & Swimming Teaching

I love swimming in all its forms, qualifying as a Level 2 Swimming Teacher in early 2024, teaching for a day and a half a week across community, public and private swim schools in SW London.I am a member of the South London Swimming Club and am part of an SLSC 4-person Channel Relay swim in 2024. I've loved taking part in the Dart 10km swim previously, as well as Hever long swims, Grafman half-iron and Midnight Man Iron Distance Triathlons.
